Semester Breakdown

Semester 1

The first semester introduces the functional areas of safety management, occupational health and legal aspects for a broad understanding of the concepts and principles. It is a semester of exploration of various aspects of industrial safety.

Semester 2

The second semester gives the students a thrust to penetrate deeper into functional domains of industrial safety and become proficient in tackling Electrical and Ergonomic issues. The students must conclude this semester with an internship opportunity that assists them to enhance professional experience and industry exposure.

Semester 3

The third semester provides the students with the freedom to specialize in a pool of electives from the domains of Oil and Gas, Process Safety and Environment Management.

Semester 4

Dedicated exclusively to project work, this semester assists the students to understand and acquire knowledge on the methodology of conducting projects in phases, develop skills to identify and convert a real-world problem into a technical problem and arrive at logical conclusions and suggestions.

  • Health Safety and Environment Legislation

    Understanding various legislations applicable to an industrial unit.

  • Research Methodology and IPR

    Understanding the sampling methods, hypothesis testing, and learning their optimization and report writing.

    Understanding hazard and risk assessment, methods of risk analysis quantification, and learning the methods of consequence analysis.

  • Safety in Chemical Industries

    Learning the safety in process design and pressure system design, plant commissioning and inspection procedures, and methods of storage and safe transportation of hazardous chemicals.

  • Fire Engineering and Explosion Control

    Understanding the chemistry of fire and acquiring knowledge of fire prevention and protection and explosion protection systems.

Semester 3

The third semester provides the students with the freedom to specialize in a pool of electives from the domains of Oil and Gas, Process Safety and Environment Management.

  • Summer Industrial Internship

    Students will undergo practical training in different sectors and industries to enhance field-based knowledge.

  • Dissertation Phase – I

    Developing the ability and proficiency in conducting a project on health, safety and environmental problems and finding solutions to socially relevant problems.

  • One program elective and one open elective of any choice from a wide basket of courses.

Semester 4

Dedicated exclusively to project work, this semester assists the students to understand and acquire knowledge on the methodology of conducting projects in phases, develop skills to identify and convert a real-world problem into a technical problem and arrive at logical conclusions and suggestions.

  • Dissertation Phase – II

    Developing skills to identify and convert a real-world problem into a technical problem, use new tools and techniques required to conduct the project, and prepare a standard project report.

Dr. S.V.S. Raja Prasad, Program Director, M.Tech ISE

The experience of Dr. S.V.S. Raja Prasad always adds to the learners' endurance. His journey counted 30 years of wisdom in industry, teaching and research, and currently, he is a Senior Associate Professor at NICMAR, Hyderabad.

Dr. Prasad's research proficiency includes Construction and Industrial Safety Engineering, Equipment Management, Multi-criteria Decision-Making, and Non-traditional Optimization. With that excellence, he has published thirty papers in national and refereed international journals.

Admission and Degree Requirements

  • Any BE/B.Tech (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical) graduate with a minimum percentage of 60% (55% for the candidates from SC/ST/OBC/PwD category) is eligible for this program.
  • Eligible candidates will be invited to appear for the selection procedure, which comprises a performance in Written Tests (CUET UG/ AIMA UGAT/ NICMAR UG NCAT), Personal Interview, and Academic Performance in Class XII and Class X.
