India plans to spend US $1.4 trillion on infrastructure projects during the current five-year plan to ensure development in the country. Such a large-scale development needs sustainable energy and environmental policies/practices in organizations and must target to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).
Considering the growing importance of Sustainability in CRIP and other sectors, NICMAR University, Pune and School of Energy and Environment (SOEE) have recently launched two interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and niche Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programmes namely, Sustainable Energy Management (SEM) and Environmental Sustainability (ENS). These programmes cover contemporary topics like Sustainability Reporting, Net Zero Strategy, Clean Energy Transition, Climate Change, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Energy Efficiency, Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) etc. The key parameters to achieve Sustainability goals include Infrastructure Imperatives, Carbon Management, Green Energy, Circular Economy, Environmental Conservation, Water Conservation and Energy Efficiency which are part of our curriculum.
With an all-encompassing objective, the curriculum is designed to provide training in energy, environment, and sustainability, with an aim to safeguard the planet. The inclusion of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) points related to policies has further enhanced the relevance and effectiveness of our curriculum. Integration of ESG principles into our teaching methodologies and coursework equips students with the required knowledge and skills to navigate in the domain of sustainability governance, ethical business practices, and stakeholder engagement. NICMAR University Pune and SOEE have a strong network with industries. This gives numerous opportunities to the students to get experience of real industry problems during internship and further prepares them for real-world challenges. The two years of rigorous course work and the learnings acquired through experience also make them employable in the industry.
SOEE have faculty members with extensive expertise in the field on energy and environment in academia and industry. Additionally, NICMAR University focusses on case-based learning to find solutions to real problems, and gains this expertise from corporate leaders and trained experienced faculty members. This ensures that students grasp theoretical concepts and alongside also gain practical skills at problem-solving, which further help in addressing different challenges in the field of sustainability. The school is committed to welcome and nurture industry-ready graduates with a zest for learning, who can take on leadership roles in the sustainability sector through their meaningful contributions.

Dr. (Mrs.) Sushma S. Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, NICMAR University, Pune, was invited by Godrej Properties Limited, Mumbai, to celebrate International Women's Day on April 10, 2024. During the event, she launched initiatives to support women in their careers. Highlight of the event was an interactive and engaging panel discussion on "Women in Leadership," where prominent women leaders like Dr. Mrs. Sushma S. Kulkarni (Vice Chancellor, NICMAR University, Pune), Ms. Arundhati Bhattacharya (Chairperson & CEO, Salesforce India), Simran Khara (Founder at Koparo; ex-McKinsey, Star TV, Juggernaut), Ms. Sabriye Tenberken (German Tibetologist and co-founder of the organization Braille Without Borders), and Ms. Megha Goel (Chief Human Resources Officer at Godrej Properties Ltd.) shared their invaluable insights and experiences. The august panel of women leaders celebrated women empowerment, achievement and success in the evolving world order.
The Centre of Excellence for Academic Practices, in collaboration with IQAC organized a full day Faculty Development Programme on ‘Active Learning and Student Management’ for all faculty members of NICMAR University, Pune on 19th April 2024.
The resource person was, Dr. Veena Kumar, who currently teaches at the University of Maryland Global Campus, USA, and was earlier Professor and Chair, Education Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India. Dr. Kumar has over 30 years of experience in teaching, research, curriculum development, e-learning, and teacher training in France, India and USA.
Dr. Sushma Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor, NICMAR University, Pune, in her introductory address spoke about the need of innovative pedagogy and its importance for enhanced student learning.
Dr. Veena Kumar provided an overview of active learning methodologies, emphasizing the importance of engaging students in the learning process through hands-on activities, discussions and fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom culture. She also mentioned about various needs of the learners and the need to change the pedagogy accordingly. The session was interactive with enthusiastic participation by all faculty members.

NICMAR University, Pune hosted an insightful Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). on April 12, 2024 for its entire research community of faculty members, students, and research scholars. The event commenced with Dr. (Mrs) Sushma S. Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor of NICMAR University, Pune, emphasizing the significance of IPR seminars in fostering academic growth and innovation. Dr. Rajni Kant Rajhans, Dean of Research and Development highlighted the significance of IPR for an academic institution in a changing environment.
Dr. Madhuranjan Vatsa, an esteemed resource person in the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), shared his extensive expertise and knowledge on IPR in regional and global context.
School of Energy & Environment at NICMAR University Pune, in collaboration with the NICMAR IWA Students Club, hosted a guest lecture led by Dr. Nilesh Amritkar, on 3rd April 2024 on the topic of – ‘Strategies to achieve sustainability in corporate buildings’.
Dr. Amritkar, renowned for his sustainable architecture expertise, emphasized the integration of green practices for long-term economic and social impact. Topics included solar roofs, pollutant-absorbing plants, and wet scrubbers. The interactive session highlighted the role of future sustainability leaders in corporate settings, empowering students to champion sustainable development. The event underscored NICMAR University's dedication to providing cutting-edge education and addressing contemporary environmental challenges.
Dr. Pradeepta Kumar Samanta, chaired a technical session on "Finance and Environmental Economics" at the 1st International Conference on "Sustainable Energy Economics in Asia-Pacific Region". The conference was organised by Goa Institute of Management (GIM) in collaboration with Asia-Pacific Applied Economics Association (APAEA) from 12th to 13th April 2024.
Mr. Ganesh Pande (Staff member) won a certificate and medal in the International 200 km Night Cycling BRM Event, held on 13 April 2024, by the PCMC Cyclists Club.

Students at NICMAR University, Pune observed fasting during the holy month of Ramadan from 12th March to 10th April, 2024. The campus provided students with healthy Sehri and Iftar meals fostering a sense of support. Arrangements were made for students to offer Namaz in the Multi-Purpose Hall. On the auspicious day of Eid, students dressed in traditional attire and exchanged heartfelt wishes with each other.
SatTva - The Sustainability Club at NICMAR University, Pune, initiated a Donation Drive from 25th April to 5th May, 2024. Students were urged to contribute to the community by donating books, bags, papers, clothes, and footwear. The response was overwhelming, with a significant number of donations pouring in. This initiative reflected the spirit of supporting the community and promoting sustainability.
