Emphasis on skill development with speed and scale has been the primary focus of the GoI, as it is clear that it is through the development of our human capital – the youth of this burgeoning nation, that we may reap the benefits of demographic dividend.
NICMAR University has been a forerunner in skill development from the earliest days of its foundation, as an industry-focused institution with a legacy of developing and enhancing employability skills for both the student community and industry executives alike. We take pride in being the only institution in the AEC/CRIP space that has been founded by the leaders of the Construction industry with the sole purpose of upgrading skills and human capital worth in the sector.
NU continues striding ahead on this path imparting value-based and skills enhancement courses, as envisioned under NEP 2020. From multidisciplinary courses focused on kindling the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship; skills development courses on persuasive communications, personal branding and networking, digital applications, foreign languages etc.; value-added courses on creative writing, creative design, and visual analysis, critique of cinema, literature and beyond; creativity and problem solving, etc.; to cutting-edge technology focused courses on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Automation and Drone technologies; the objective is to enhance employability skills and optimize holistic development for our wider student community.
We sincerely believe that our continued and sustained efforts, as guided by the vision of NEP 2020 will help build ethos, integrity and sustainable skills for the working citizens of tomorrow, who will shape the future of work in the coming decades of a rising India.

Program Spotlight
MBA in Sustainable Energy Management
India has ushered in low emissions growth pathways while simultaneously endeavoring to achieve sustainable development goals. NICMAR University Pune has embraced this sustainability pathway and through its School of Energy and Environment has started an MBA Program in Sustainable Energy Management (SEM). MBA in SEM program is built upon the concepts and applications of energy technology, energy business management, and project management, all integrated with sustainability and is delivered through niche software-based, hands-on skilled based, outcome-based industrial or applied business field work and analytical/critical thinking based experiential learning.

NICMAR Doctoral School
NICMAR Doctoral School (NDS) has offered Ph.D. admissions to 8 full-time scholars with NICMAR Doctoral Fellowship (NDF) and 12 part-time scholars. All NDF recipients will receive a monthly fellowship of Rs. 1,00,000 (Rupees One Lakh Only) and an annual contingency grant of Rs. 50,000 (Rupees Fifty Thousand only). The scholars will report to the university on 10th July for the orientation program.

Happenings @ NICMAR
Industry Leadership Visit @ Pune
Mr. Arjun Dhawan-Executive Vice Chairman of HCC visited NICMAR University, Pune (NUP) on 5th May 2023 and was welcomed by Dr Anil Kashyap, President and Chancellor NUP, Dr Sushma Kulkarni, Vice Chancellor NUP, and other leadership team. Mr. Dhawan engaged with the demo of Drones, AR/VR, and the latest new facilities included in various labs of NICMAR.
During this visit, tree plantation was organised and Mr. Dhawan participated by planting a tree on the newly landscaped area in front of the new Academic Block. Mr. Dhawan also offered HCC project sites for faculty and student learning during their Masters and Undergraduate programs.
Teaching Learning Practices Showcase 2023
The Academic Practice Directorate (APD) organised a symposium titled "Teaching and Learning Practices Showcase 2023", on April 26, 2023 at NICMAR University's Pune Campus to provide a forum for the discussion of varied innovative pedagogical practices adopted by faculty members to teach certain niche courses.
The event began with a warm welcome of Prof. Fiona Smart who works as an international teaching-learning consultant. She is former department head and now a visiting Professor at Edinburgh Napier University Scotland and a visiting Professor at UWE, Bristol apart from her training and consulting work. Dr. Anil Kashyap, President and Chancellor, NICMAR University, in his inaugural address, highlighted the importance of deliberations needed on innovations in teaching-learning process and laid emphasis on adopting the best practices followed in the topmost universities in the world.
Dr. Mrs. Sushma S. Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor, NICMAR University, Pune, in her introductory address, spoke about the importance of quality in teaching-learning systems and encouraged the faculty members to actively participate and draw the best from each other. Dr. Poonam Kashyap, Director of Strategy and External Partnerships for NICMAR Group of Institutions was the judge for the event along with Prof. Fiona Smart.
In total, seven teams of NICMAR faculty members presented their innovations in teaching- learning practices. The presentations and the report submissions were judged by Dr. Poonam Kashyap, Director of Strategy and External Partnerships for NICMAR Group ofInstitutions, and Dr. Fiona Smart. All participants presented interesting and innovative teaching and assessment methodologies in the showcase and sparked interesting discussions and conversations.
The 'Best Academic Practice Award' of the year 2023 was given to Prof. Janhavi Abhang and Prof. Priyanka Bendigiri. The winners were felicitated by Dr. Fiona Smart. Overall, the event was an enriching experience for everyone.
Faculty Development Program
Academic Practice Directorate, NICMAR University, Pune organised a two-days faculty development program titled,'Learning and Teaching for Professional Excellence and an Enhanced Student Experience', on 27th and 28th April 2023. The resource person for the FDP was, Prof. Fiona Smart, an international Learning and Teaching Enhancement Consultant. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Anil Kashyap, President and Chancellor, NICMAR University, Dr. Mrs. Sushma S. Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor, NICMAR University, Pune and Dr. Poonam Kashyap, Director of Strategy and External Partnerships for NICMAR Group of Institutions.
Prof. Fiona Smart is currently a visiting professor at Edinburgh Napier University and was earlier Head of the Department of Learning and Teaching at Edinburgh Napier University. She is also a visiting professor at UWE, Bristol, UK. As a learning and teaching enhancement consultant, Prof. Fiona works in the UK and internationally to support and drive strategic change which results in demonstrable impact.
The faculty benefitted from the experienced deliberations by Dr. Fiona Smart. As the pedagogy for the FDP was activity based, all the faculty had hands-on experience with topics such as "Effective Curriculum Design", "Engaging Students as Learners: Pedagogical Techniques, Innovations and Best Practices", "Assessing Learning: Evaluating Effectiveness" and "Enabling Student Feedback, Evaluating the Curriculum and Continuous Improvement of Learning Programs".
Summer School Program @HYDERABAD
NICMAR Hyderabad has started a new initiative called the Summer School Program with the aim of creating awareness among the undergraduate students of engineering and architecture in domains related to real-estate and infrastructure project management, and various facets of construction projects.
The call for applications received an incredibly good response with 135 students across the country expressing their interest. After a review of the applications, selected students have been invited for the first edition of Summer School 2023. The 3-week program is being delivered in two slots with the current slot running from 22nd May 2023 to 10th June 2023. The program is being delivered with activity-based pedagogical methods combined with guest lectures by industry experts and site visits.
Dr. Anil Kashyap, President and Chancellor NICMAR University and Mr. J Venkata Durga Prasad, General Manager, Aparna Constructions, Hyderabad, attended the inaugural ceremony.
Faculty and Staff Achievements/Awards
Dr. Indrasen Singh has been awarded the International Icon of Higher Education Excellence Award by the International Institute of Education and Management in association with Star International on 5th May, 2023. The award was presented in recognition of his outstanding achievements and remarkable role in the field of higher education.
Dr. Pradeepta Kumar Samanta, was invited as a Resource Person for the National Conference on “National Education Policy (NEP) and Inclusion of NEP Parameters in Self Study Report of NAAC” organized by IQAC of Vidyasagar College for Women (NAAC Accredited), Kolkata on 31st May 2023.

Induction Program
School of Executive Education (SoExE) NICMAR University, Pune conducted an Induction Training Program for Newly Recruited Group 'A' officers of Military Engineering Services from 02nd May to 08th May 2023 (6 working days) for the officials of the College of Military Engineering. The program was attended by 37 officers of Military Engineering Services.
MDP on Managerial Skills Building in Construction
Management Development Program (MDP) on Managerial Skills Building in Construction (Course-A) was organized for the officials of Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) from 08th May to 13th May 2023 at NICMAR University, Pune by SoExE. 24 officers of PITCMRL attended this MDP.
MDP on Construction Project Management
School of Executive Education organised Management Development Program on Construction Project Management for the officials of Tata Steel Limited. The Program was held from 15th May to 19th May 2023 at NICMAR University, Pune and was attended by 18 officers of Tata Steel Limited.
