Digital learning innovations have the potential to improve instruction and learning effectiveness by facilitating effective pedagogies and improving efficiency in higher education. Some disruptive digital technologies in higher education include Online learning platforms, Adaptive learning, Virtual and augmented reality, Artificial intelligence, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Social Learning Platforms, Blended Learning, etc. NICMAR University endeavours to create curriculum and pedagogical interventions in tune with the need of changing times and equip our student community with the knowledge to take on insurmountable challenges with flair. In line with the vision of NEP 2020, each of our programs has been infused with pedagogical interventions such as experiential learning, application-oriented projects, digital tools, and real-life internships, etc. to fulfill the objective of holistic education and learning of the participants. The motive is to equip new-age students with new-age knowledge to be the drivers of change and hope in this evolving world order.

It has been heartening to see that these disruptive technologies ranging from Gamification to Simulations, adaptive learning, MOOCs, Blended learning, etc. have been well received by our knowledge disseminators (the faculty community) with a desire to continue upgrading their potential and contribute more to this knowledge community. It is with pride that, NU continues to strive and make a mark on the global education map through its various offerings and knowledge-based interventions.

MoU between NICMAR University and SoftTech Engineers Limited

It gives us great joy to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SoftTech Engineers Limited, a leading software products company in AEC solutions for Civil / Structural Engineering, Architectural, and Construction industry-specific applications.

This MoU will foster a strong industry-academia relationship by embarking on multiple collaboration initiatives such as information exchange on the latest technologies, trends in the built environment space, research initiatives of mutual interest, and ultimately, strengthen the ecosystem in the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction domain.

MoU between NICMAR University and YelloSKYE

A Memorandum of Understanding with YelloSKYE was signed to digitalize the construction industry with cutting-edge drone technologies.

With high-performance products like “The Drone Exchange”, “Elite Sky League”, “Quality Intelligence and Documentation”, and “Drone Data in 3D”, YelloSkye is an end-to-end turnkey service provider of analytics for the construction and solar industry. This collaboration will pave the way for enhanced visualization and engagement in our students, and also inspire them to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) fields.

Dr. Prashant Dave joins NICMAR University, Pune as the First Registrar

Dr. Prashant Dave has joined as the First Registrar of NICMAR University, Pune, w.e.f. February 1, 2023. Dr. Dave has worked as Registrar at Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University-Pune, as Dy. Registrar at the School of Business Management, NMIMS University-Mumbai, and as Academic Administrator, Faculty & Head of the Department in various Institutes / Colleges.

Happenings @ NICMAR

74th Republic Day Celebration

NICMAR community came together to celebrate India's 74th Republic Day. The President and Chancellor Prof. Anil Kashyap unfurled the Indian national flag and enlightened the audience with an inspiring speech. The student community organised and participated in a cultural event to celebrate the spirit of incredible India.

The members of music, dance and drama clubs delivered scintillating performances steeped in patriotic fervour. The celebrations concluded with the prize distribution ceremony for Spardha ‘23.

Webinars

The School of Energy and Environment, NICMAR University Pune,
conducted two webinars: First webinar was on “Energy Optimization- Taking the first right step towards Built Environment Design” conducted on 11th January 2023. The speaker of the webinar was Mr. Mahesh Ghanekar from Cummins India Pvt Ltd.

Second webinar was on “Climate Change - What can a Common Man do to mitigate it!”. The webinar was delivered by 'Solar Suresh' and was organised on 04th January 2023.

Business Analytics Workshop

NICMAR Business School organised a one-day workshop with certification in Business Analytics for undergraduates in hybrid mode. A total of 63 candidates participated in this workshop of which 19 of them attended the workshop offline.

The resource persons for the workshop were Mr. Vinod Melarkode, Founder - Moonshot Leadership Consulting (ex-Regional Head of Talent & Leadership at Amdocs); Mr. Upendre Lele, Professor In Charge of Computing Center at Indsearch, Pune and Dr. Darshan Mahajan, Associate Professor, NICMAR university.

The workshop comprised an overview of Business Analytics, Algorithms and programming for decision-making for beginners and Data Visualisation for Decision Making with the help of Power BI (Lab session)

Workshop on Research Collaborations

NICMAR University organised a workshop on “Developing Collaboration in Research: Opportunities to Collaborate between UK and India” for the faculty members on 5th January 2023. Dr. Vikas Kumar, Director of Research and Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at UWE Bristol, UK was the resource person of this workshop.

Dr. Vikas not only shared his research journey, but gave us valuable inputs on how to form effective collaborations across the world in research, and also improve the visibility of research work. his incredibly insightful sessions with our team on collaboration in research.

Gender Sensitization Program

The Internal Committee (IC) for POSH, organised a gender sensitization program, ‘Harmony: A dialogue on Diversity and Inclusivity’, for students of NICMAR University, on 25th January 2023.

The speaker for this session was Dr. Gopa Samanta, Professor and Head Dept. of Geography at Burdwan University. She began her talk by elaborating on the importance of having more women in construction management, architecture and planning and the need for a dialogue about inclusivity and diversity. She discussed the concept of femininity and masculinity and its burden on people through behavioural norms and codes. She highlighted the need of awareness and frequent dialogues on gender sensitization and inclusivity. The event initiated a dialogue amongst students and faculty about gender issues and involved several question-answers and discussion after the talk.

Industry Seminar Series

In continuation with the Industry Seminar Series, NICMAR University, Pune organised few more seminars for its students. The fourth industry seminar was organised on 04th January 2023. The seminar was delivered by Prof. Vikas Kumar, Director, Research UWE Bristol UK. The topic of the seminar was “Sustainable Supply Chain Management”.

The expert touched upon the Concept of Sustainability; Sustainable Development Goals and conflict areas and discussed a few Case studies of sustainable supply chain management adopted by various organizations in the seminar. He also answered various questions related to Sustainability and Supply Chain Management Systems raised by the students and faculty members.

Similarly, the fifth industry seminar was conducted on 18th January 2023 on the topic “Managing Innovation and Entrepreneurship”. The resource person for the seminar was Shri. Manojeet Choudhury, Partner, Rheinbrucke IT Consulting and CAMS Consulting.

Shri. Manojeet Choudhury gave an insight into the Concepts related to innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship, case studies underlining the importance of innovation, Identifying opportunities with help of innovation and entrepreneurship, Innovation strategies, innovation as a business process, myths of innovation, Idea generation, idea selection and portfolio management.

The sixth industry seminar on 25th January 2023 was delivered by Shri. Vivek Gadgil, Managing Director L & T Hyderabad Metro Rail Project and Sr. Vice President, L & T Constructions (Retd.). The topic of the seminar was “Journey from Construction Engineer to Construction Manager".

The expert discussed areas like the importance of technical knowledge for successful managerial careers, the importance of balance of professional and personal life, the need for ethical practices in the Construction Industry, etc. The seminar was followed by a question-and-answer session where in the students asked various questions related to the technical and managerial skills required for a successful career in Construction Management. The program was well attended by the students and faculty members of NICMAR University.

Workshop on Primavera

The School of Project Management organised a one-day workshop on “Introductory Hands-on Workshop on Primavera (P6)”. The participants were given a hands-on training on Primavera (P6) by the subject expert Dr. Arijita Biswas. Participants from different colleges attended the workshop. Certificates were also distributed to participants upon successful completion of workshop.

Management Development Program @Hyderabad

A three-day workshop on “Project Estimation & Cost Control” was conducted by the School of Executive Education, NICMAR Hyderabad (20, 21, 22 January 2023). 24 Participants from various organizations attended the program. The program covered various critical topics such as Project selection criteria, Value Engineering, CAPEX decisions, Cost control, Life cycle costing & sustainability, Work Breakdown & Resource breakdown structures, Cashflow & working capital management etc.

Industry Talk @Hyderabad

Mr. Raj Lakhani, Managing Director PERI (India), visited NICMAR Hyderabad on 18th January, 2023. PERI was a part of one of the India’s most prestigious projects, the Statue of Unity. He addressed the first year students of ACM on potential career opportunities in the formwork sector for which students need to be open-minded and willing to accept challenges.

Executive Education Programs

Project Management Practitioners’ (Level 1 and 2) and Champions’ (Level 2) Programs

School of Executive Education, NICMAR University Pune organised Project Management Practitioners’ Program Level 1 and 2, and Project Management Champions’ Program Level 2 from 7th – 28th January 2023, for the officials of The Tata Power Company Limited.

Certificate Program in Project Planning and Scheduling

A certificate program in Project Planning and Scheduling using Primavera for the officials of Madhya Pradesh Building Development Corporation Limited from 09th January to 12th January 2023 was conducted by the School of Executive Education, NICMAR University Pune.

MDP on Project Management

A Management Development Program on Project Management was arranged for the officials Schneider Electric from 16th January to 19th January 2023.

Construction Project Management

Six days MDP on “Construction Project Management” for executive engineers of College of Military Engineering was organised from 21st January to 28th January 2023.

Emerging Leaders program on Project Management

The officials of Voltas Limited participated in the “Emerging Leaders Program on Project Management conducted between 23rd January to 29th January 2023.

Open Enrolment Program on ‘BIM for Collaborative Construction’

NICMAR University through its School of Executive Education successfully delivered its second batch (September 2022 till January 2023) of an Open Enrolment Program on ‘BIM for Collaborative Construction’ to make construction professionals eligible for emerging new work opportunities. The program was conceptualised by Dr. Sagar Malsane (subject faculty). In total 22 numbers of working professionals from different parts of India enrolled and expressed complete satisfaction with the way.

Canada-India Business Forum

Under the mentorship of Dr. J. S. Sudarsan, program director of MBA ENS, students from MBA Advanced Project Management (NICMAR University, Pune) participated in the Canada-India Business Forum organized by the Consulate General of Canada in Mumbai. As part of this forum, the students got a chance to understand the high-end water and wastewater treatment technologies and interact with the delegates of Canadian Organizations and the Canadian Embassy.

Sankranthi and Pongal Celebrations @Pune

In honour of the initiation of Harvest season, the students gathered to celebrate Sankranthi 23 by setting up a model village scene supported by colourful decor. The festivities were a one-of-a-kind experience with the inclusion of vibrant rangoli competitions, inspiring best-out-of-waste challenges and entertaining cultural performances.

In reverence to the Sun and mother nature and as a tribute to the bountiful harvest season, the pongal committee celebrated Pongal with festive fervour. The campus glittered with vibrant decorations and bright pookollam. Exciting competitions like tug of war and Uriyadi, a traditional earthen pot pinata game were organised. The evening was filled with dazzling cultural performances representing the vivacious art forms through melodious renditions of songs, accompanied by the pulsating beats of traditional Tamil music. Silambam, a traditional martial art left the audience in awe and a series of dance performances enthralled the audience.

Spardha 2023

Spardha, the annual sports event was held from January 18 to January 22. Various teams participated enthusiastically in badminton, table tennis, chess, volleyball, cricket, basketball, shotput and football. Team Phoenix emerged as the overall winner of Spardha 2023.

Workshop for Students @Hyderabad

The Centre for Continuing ProfessionaL Development, NICMAR Hyderabad organized a workshop titled ‘Re-write Your Script’ for the students of ACM (Seniors), PEM (Seniors), QSCM, HSEM and LSCM students on 11th, 18th and 25th January 2023. The resource persons for the workshop were Dr.Vimlesh Prabhu Desai and Dr. Lyseth D’Souza of NICMAR Hyderabad. In this hands-on workshop, students were sensitised about the importance of self-awareness and emotional intelligence and trained to use self-affirmation strategies for better professional development. The workshop received excellent feedback.

Sankranti Celebrations @Hyderabad

In line with the UGC Directives regarding the celebration of Makar Sankranthi in the higher educational institutions across the country under the aegis of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharath (EBSB) initiative, the members of the student Club Yugma, NICMAR Hyderabad campus celebrated the festival with all fervour on 11th January 2023.

The celebrations were marked by a Rangoli competition in which the students participated enthusiastically and a kite-flying event. Traditional Sankranthi prasadam was distributed to all the members on the campus.
