NICMAR Overview

The National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), has been constituted as a non profit organization with the express objective of engaging in activities for the promotion of training, research, professionalism and skill formation at all levels of the construction and other allied industries. Besides that, NICMAR’s objectives include undertaking special projects, collaboration with other organizations, dissemination of knowledge through seminars / conferences, etc; publishing literature, undertaking consultancy and taking necessary actions conducive to fulfillment of the objectives of the Society. Under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950, NICMAR was registered as a Public Trust in 1982. The NICMAR Society was constituted in 1984 and registered under the Societies’ Registration Act, 1860.

The Board of Trustees, the Board of Governors and the Director General, referred in the Memorandum of Association as the ‘Chief Executive’ of the Society, are responsible for all the decisions and actions related to NICMAR. At the Institute level, there is an Academic Council chaired by Director General which is responsible for all academic decisions. There is also Research Advisory Board and an Academic Advisory Council to provide advisory support in areas referred to these bodies. There is a well developed internal organizational structure with well defined roles and responsibilities for regular administration and management of the Institute.

Recognition as SIRO:

NICMAR is very active in research and industrial problem solving in these areas. NICMAR is recognized as “Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO)” by Dept. of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. NICMAR is regularly assessed for income tax and enjoys benefits under section 11 and 80G of Income Tax Act 1961. NICMAR also enjoys exemption from customs duty and central excise, by virtue of it being SIRO.

 

The Institute is a registered service provider for providing the following services:

1. Scientific and technical consultancy services
2. Commercial training or coaching services
3. Accommodation in hostels, inn, guest house, club or camp site etc.


UNDP Assistance:

NICMAR received UNDP grant which enabled the Institute to involve eminent academics from MIT, USA; University of Michigan, USA; University of Loughborough, ILO, IIMA, other institutes in India and eminent practitioners from India in development of the first full fledged curriculum for a full time residential post graduate Programme in Advanced Construction Management in late eighties.

Training:

NICMAR takes pride in being a unique, specialized institute in the country dedicated to provide post graduate training in construction, projects, real estate, infrastructure and allied areas in the country. Its programmes primarily involve imparting / acquiring particular knowledge and skills specifically needed for professionals in construction and allied industries such as real estate, projects and infrastructure.

Training Modes:

NICMAR has been a pioneering Institute offering post graduate level training in specialized areas like construction management, project engineering and management, real estate management, infrastructure management, family owned construction business management, contemporary smart city development management and allied areas. NICMAR offers training through part time modes also.

NICMAR conducts management development courses for a variety of organizations in construction and allied industries. These programmes are in a variety of modes including long duration programmes, medium duration programmes and short duration courses. Similarly, the programme focus could be function based, project based or business based. The long duration courses are modular in nature and most of the programmes are conducted on campus at Pune/Hyderabad(Shamirpet)/Goa(Farmagudi)/Delhi NCR(Bahadurgarh).
